Elizabeth Ann Barajas, MA

  • Staff Advisor, All Health Professions
Elizabeth is a staff advisor for Health Professions Advising, specializing in helping current students and alumni with their personal statements and other writing requirements for health professions applications. She received her MA from UC Davis in 2013 in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages. After receiving her degree, she taught writing, grammar and pronunciation classes for international students through the UC Davis Extension and the Linguistics Department. More recently, she worked for the Academic Assistance and Tutoring Centers as a Writing Specialist, helping students with their class assignments and writing requirements for graduate and professional school applications. Elizabeth is passionate about giving students the support and tools they need to reach their goals.

Doug McLemore

  • Test Prep Specialist
Doug started his career teaching Astronomy and Chemistry at community college and university in Colorado.  In 2007, he got his first test of test prep when his university started an in-house MCAT prep program. He taught the course for two semesters.  Not long after, Doug went on to work as a teacher, tutor, trainer, and developer for one of the big test prep providers.  He spent about a decade focused on learning about the test prep business and even worked in an advising capacity for pre-medical students.  Afterwards, he started his own tutoring business. At HPA he is developing an in-house test prep program for the GRE, DAT, OAT, PCAT, MCAT, and other standardized tests that students need to get into health profession post-graduate programs.

Karen Draper

  • Staff Advisor, All Health Professions
Karen graduated from UC Davis in Spring 2019 as a Biochemistry and Molecular Biology major. While she is not a transfer student, she did receive her Associated Degree in Arts and Humanities when she graduated high school. She became a staff advisor in Summer 2019, but was previously a peer advisor and co-coordinator for the Pre-Health Ambassador Network (PHAN), an organization within HPA. She also helped found and coordinate the High School Pre-Health Symposium. Karen attended the 2018 ADEA GoDental Recruitment Event in Orlando where she saw a mock interview and spoke with dental school admissions representatives. She loves advising, tabling, and hosting workshops to help students’ on their pre-health path. Her favorite part about working in HPA has been making my closest friends and working together on events, including the Summer Pre-Med Bootcamp. 

Harjeet Mann

  • Medical Student, Pre-Med Advisor
Harjeet graduated from UC Davis in 2022 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Public Health Sciences. She is originally from Elk Grove, CA and is very familiar with the Sacramento/Davis area. During undergrad, she was involved with student organizations such the Bhagat Puran Singh Health Initiative, Nishkam Sewa, and Undergraduate Health Public Health Scholars. She was also employed part-time in with Health Education and Promotion at Student Health and Counseling Services. While in undergrad, she participated in research involving chemistry education as well as studying Adverse Childhood Experiences. She is currently a second year medical student at UC Davis and hopes to pursue a career combining medicine and public health. In her free time, Harjeet enjoys biking, baking eggless treats, online shopping, and spending time with her family!

Natalie Español

  • Staff Advisor
Natalie (she/her) graduated from UC Davis in 2023 with a B.S. in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior with a minor in Gender, Sexuality, and Women’s studies. As an undergraduate, Natalie worked in the Carbohydrate Observatory under Dr. Zwieniecki, studying the impact of global warming on Northern California farms. She was also involved in the UCD Women’s Water Polo Club and drove buses with Unitrans! Natalie found a passion for health education while working at a COVID-19 test center in 2021, where she helped explain test results and symptom management to patients. Since then, Natalie has been pursuing a career in healthcare, with plans to attend medical school. After graduation, she has been working in the UC Davis Medical Center Emergency Department as a medical scribe and volunteering as a birth doula with Sutter Health. In Spring Quarter 2024, she was a Lab Aide for Human Gross Anatomy at UC Davis, where she had the opportunity to teach and mentor a tight-knit group of pre-health undergraduate students. In her free time, Natalie enjoys hiking, camping, and swimming.

Sierra Sandusky

  • Events and Marketing Coordinator
Sierra is a graduate of Sonoma State University, earning her Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. During her time in college, she played on the Napa Valley College Women's Golf team and was a member of the Sports Business Club at SSU. Sierra began her career in marketing working at a premier motorsports facility, focusing on marketing and events execution. In joining the HPA team, Sierra is excited to curate and host events to help students pursue their education goals and careers. Sierra loves to fill her time with golf, creative projects, and attempting sourdough recipes. Additionally, she serves on a board of a local organization that assists the community through wildfire education and mitigation projects.

Emma Belliveau

  • Pre-Health Program Advisor
Emma (she/they) earned their bachelor's degree in Environmental Studies and Applied and Resource Economics from the University of Connecticut in 2020 and their master's degree in Urban and Environmental Policy and Planning from Tufts University in 2024. During their undergraduate program, they worked for the Honors Office for three years and transitioned to working for the Pre-Medical & Pre-Dental Advising Office upon graduation. They were there for close to four years, first as a Program Assistant and then as a Pre-Medical Advisor. As an undergraduate, Emma also worked as a Program Evaluation Research Assistant for the university's environmental majors/minors to determine ways the colleges could better meet the academic and professional development needs of their students. Their love for working with students—gained and sustained through several stints as a teaching assistant for undergraduate and graduate courses—was solidified in pre-health advising. They're committed to helping pre-health students understand the full value of their unique interests and strengths and emphasizing the beauty of pursuing holistic preparation on the timeline that works for them. Emma also has a background in climate planning and equity work with the Maine Climate Council and is excited to ​bring a strong perspective on community planning, resilience, and sustainability to advising students and alumni who are passionate about the future of health equity and justice. In their free time, Emma likes to go for walks, watch basketball, read books, do sudoku puzzles, and spend time with loved ones.

Maria Bellamacina

  • Nursing Student, Pre-Nursing Advisor
Maria (she/her/hers) graduated from UC Davis in 2019 with a B.S. in Psychology. While she was an undergraduate, Maria worked at a local facility for adults with mental illness and volunteered in a research lab at the Center for Mind and Brain. After graduating she worked both in research for the University of Colorado and in inpatient psychiatry for Stanford before switching gears to nursing. She is a current student at the Masters Entry Program in Nursing (MEPN) at the Betty Irene Moore School of Nursing at UC Davis set to graduate in 2024. In her free time, you can find Maria cooking, baking, hiking, and enjoying happy hour with her friends.

Christian Guerzon

  • Vet Student, Pre-Vet Advisor
Christian (he/him/his) is currently a first year veterinary student and graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Animal Biology in 2021. During undergrad he shadowed the soft-tissue surgery service at the UC Davis veterinary medical teaching hospital where he ended up doing research with one of the surgical professors. He continued to do more research in developmental biology with another faculty member at the veterinary school that looked at the conservation of neural crest cell signaling between peafowls and chickens. During his free time Christian is into gaming and also playing golf . Fun fact, he played for the men’s golf team at community college).

Kimberly Aguirre

  • Vet Student, Pre-Vet Advisor
Kimberly graduated from UC Davis in 2022 with a B.S. in Animal Biology and a minor in Public Health Sciences. She is originally from Calexico, CA, an agricultural bordertown in Southern California. During undergrad, she was involved with student organizations such the Pre-vet Students Supporting Diversity club, EOP, and the Transfer Research Society. She was also employed part-time in UC Davis Undergraduate Admissions as a student outreach assistant and as a research assistant in the Pires Urban Agriculture & Food Safety Lab. While in undergrad, she participated in research involving food safety, microbiology and epidemiology. She is currently a first year veterinary student at UC Davis and hopes to pursue a career involving food animal medicine and public health. In her free time, Kimberly enjoys playing tennis, biking around the arboretum, watching horror movies, cooking, spending time with loved ones and shouting "squirrel!" whenever she sees a squirrel
