Position Title
Vet Student, Pre-Vet Advisor
Christian (he/him/his) is currently a first year veterinary student and graduated from UC Davis with a degree in Animal Biology in 2021. During undergrad he shadowed the soft-tissue surgery service at the UC Davis veterinary medical teaching hospital where he ended up doing research with one of the surgical professors. He continued to do more research in developmental biology with another faculty member at the veterinary school that looked at the conservation of neural crest cell signaling between peafowls and chickens. During his free time Christian is into gaming and also playing golf . Fun fact, he played for the men’s golf team at community college).
What advice do you have for pre-vet aggies?
My advice to Pre-vet students is to not compare yourself to your peers. Understand that you have a unique story and you should do everything that contributes to who you are. The reason for this is that when it comes time to write your personal statements you will have so much content to draw from but also the authenticity of what you’re writing about will come through to your reviewers.
Another piece of advice is to most importantly have fun! It’s a difficult ride but it’ll all be worth it.
Is there anything you wish you would have done differently in your pre-health career?
During undergrad I wish I had taken more time to do things outside of school and taken chances to just try out new things to make the journey that more enjoyable.
What has been your favorite memory at UC Davis?
My favorite memory so far during veterinary school has been scrubbing in for a hemilaminectomy (surgery to correct ruptured vertebral discs in dogs) during my VMTH day.
